Data-Driven School Counseling

Effectively implementing data-driven school counseling programs is often challenging, but without outcome data to prove the effectiveness of the programming, school counselors run the risk of losing their positions (Whiston, 2002). The enactment of a recent Texas law permitting unlicensed chaplains to replace school counselors (NPR, 2023) highlights the urgency for empirically based programming. Data-informing counseling practice is critically important to ensure the effectiveness of counseling interventions on clients and communities. Built upon a foundation of best practices, this presentation offers practical insights on needs assessments, outcome measures, and data dissemination. Presented with real-world examples and actionable ideas ready for implementation.

Upon returning to your school, you’ll be equipped with tangible skills to foster awareness, self-reflection, and connection with students.
